Many of us may become ill

There are around 61 million people in the UK. The Cabinet Office (a key UK Government department) is concerned that at least 50% of the population could become ill in another flu pandemic. The Government are encouraging the use of the swine flu vaccine; however statistics have shown that despite this, uptake on the swine flu vaccine has been low. More recently, supplies of the vaccine have been running low in some areas. Anti-viral medication provides another alternative.

The flu virus spreads quickly

Adults are able to infect others one day before getting symptoms and up to one week after getting sick. Children can be infectious even longer, sometimes up to several weeks.
