50% of us could be ill
There are around 61 million people in the UK. The Cabinet Office is concerned that at least 50% of the population will become ill in a flu pandemic. However, the UK Government have purchased and stored enough antiviral medication to cover just 25% of the population, there simply won’t be enough medication for everyone who needs it.
With an estimated 50% of the population becoming ill it is easy to work out how quickly our hospital beds will fill and our medical staff become overwhelmed. Inevitably vital medication will be in short supply.
Medication will be in short supply
If you are one of the unlucky ones to fall ill during a pandemic flu outbreak, you may not be able to get antiviral medication from your GP or the NHS. With supplies being limited it will be a lottery who will or will not get access to what could be life saving medication. Vaccines will not be available for many months.
The flu virus will spread quickly
The pandemic will be a new virus so people will not have any natural immunity; even young, healthy adults, who do not usually fall ill with seasonal flu, will be in danger.
Just like seasonal flu, pandemic flu will be an air bourne virus and will spread rapidly.
Contact can occur by direct bodily contact (such as kissing) or touching something with virus on it (such as shaking hands with someone who has the flu) and then touching your mouth, nose or eyes.
Respiratory droplets are generated by a person coughing or sneezing and can be propelled right into your eyes, nose or mouth over short distances. These droplets are minute and can not be seen with the naked eye.
Adults are able to infect others one day before getting symptoms and up to one week after getting sick. Children can be infectious even longer, sometimes up to several weeks.
Protect yourself and your loved one from pandemic flu. In the absence of a suitable vaccine, the only way to treat pandemic flu is with antiviral medication. To secure your own private supply of antiviral medication for use in a pandemic flu outbreak order now.
